Sean Justin Penn is an American actor, director, screenwriter and producer. He won two Academy Awards for his roles in the mystical TV series The River of Mystery and the biographical film Milk. Penn started his acting career in television, with a guest appearance in episode 112 of Little House on the Prairie on December 4, 1974, and directed by his father Leo Penn. Following her film debut in the TV series Taps, and a host of film roles in the 1980s, including Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Bad Boys. Penn received critically acclaimed roles in the crime dramas At Close Range, State of Grace and Carlito's Way. He is known as a lead actor for the TV series Dead Man Walking, which won his first Oscar nomination and Best Actor award at the Berlin Film Festival.
For his appearances in the films Mystic River and Milk, he won the Academy Award for Best Actor. He rose to prominence after appearing in the 1982 high school comedy Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and went on to star in films including Carlito's Way, Dead Man Walking, I Am Sam, and 21 Grams.
