In July 2017, Vayntrub was cast in the lead role of Marvel Comics superheroine Doreen Green / Squirrel Girl in the New Warriors television pilot. The show languished in development before ultimately getting cancelled. Despite the series' cancellation, Vayntrub voiced Squirrel Girl in the Marvel Rising franchise.
